Learning to Hear from God for Yourself
In Christian circles, you hear the term “The Lord said to me …..” or “I’m trying to hear from God about …..” Those who know a real touch from the Holy Spirit are now trying to hear what their Creator God has to say about their faith journey. For some people, even hearing from God is a very new concept.
However, have you ever heard of an Army going out to war without hearing their Captain? … or an airplane without hearing from their airport of destination? What about a footy team that can’t hear their Coach? Impossible yet so many people are trying to live their Christian journey without the vital help of the Lord Jesus.
We were designed to Hear from God! So, what happened?
When sin entered the Earth through Adam and Eve’s actions, their relationship with Creator God was broken. Since people now have a choice in relating to God, stony hard hearts and willful pride has increased …….. and soon, people didn’t want to hear from Him but to ‘do their own thing’.
.…… but it was not a surprise to the Creator God.
Throughout the last 7,000 years, God’s plan has been to restore and even inspire His creation to return to the plans He has for us. The all-knowing, omnipotent God chose to become flesh and live as one of us. Someone once said it was like a human becoming an ant to understand their world.
To begin with, trying to get our limited, finite mind around God, the infinite, is like that ant trying to understand the Sydney Opera House or the New York Bridge. Unless we have some direct input from this God of Creation, we can only see Him from a very limited perception.
However, we really believe that God desires a walk with Him to be a 2-way relationship. That means, you can hear from God for yourself! That means you can learn to communicate with your Creator God but only through the way He has set out!
As you start out, it’s like trying to learn any new skill. It takes time and practice. Those who learn how will tell you it is very worthwhile to practice, practice and get this right. The whole of your life depends on learning this new skill.
